S5 Higher Course Description

HIGHER  MUSIC TIMETABLE

 

1st  INSTRUMENT – 30% of total mark – pupils prepare a programme of 10 minutes minimum length.         Average number of pieces – 4

 

Piece 1 – Completed by 26/8/13 (25% of total programme)

Piece 2 – Completed by 30/9/13 (25% of total programme)

Piece 3 – Completed by 18/11/13 (25% of total programme)

Piece 4 – Completed by 16/12/13 (25% of total programme)

The N.A.B. is held in early January. However the above assessments should also be regarded as N.A.B.s as pupils have to pass all pieces in order to gain a full course award.

 

 

 

2nd  INSTRUMENT – 30% of total mark – pupils prepare a programme of 5 minutes minimum length.        Average number of pieces – 3

 

Piece 1 – Completed by 9/9/13

Piece 2 – Completed by 4/11/13

Piece 3 – Completed by 9/12/13

The N.A.B. is held in early January. However the above assessments should also be regarded as N.A.B.s as pupils have to pass all pieces in order to gain a full course award.

 

 

LISTENING PAPER  40%

 

Renaissance – Class Test Week Beginning 24/6/13

Baroque – Class Test Week Beginning 9/9/13

Classical– Class Test Week Beginning 21/10/13

Romantic– Class Test Week Beginning 18/11/13

20th Century – Week Beginning 9/12/13

Listening N.A.B. – February

 

All pupils require to constantly revise all Standard Grade and Higher concepts – using websites such as Learning & Teaching, Scotland will help with this as will testing your child’s knowledge of these words using concept books.

 

PUPILS MUST PASS THE LISTENING N.A.B. IN ORDER TO GAIN THE FULL COURSE AWARD.

 

 

INVENTION    2 contrasting pieces

( March, Reel, Ragtime, Latin American etc.)

Each invention must be over one minute in length.

Each must contain Credit and Higher concepts.

(cadences, dominant 7th, imitation, etc)

 

Inventions do not contribute to the overall course mark but are either awarded a pass or fail.

 

Pupils must pass this element of the course in order to obtain an overall course award.
